Can you believe that it’s almost December! For many of us means that we have spent a good part of our year at home (tbh, the pandemic is not making it any easier). And let’s face it – there is nothing relaxing about living a restricted life during the pandemic. As much as a trip to the nearest spa sounds like a faraway dream right now, it doesn’t mean that we can’t bring the spa day at home!
If you are feeling a bit off and are in need of a serious pick-me-up day, I urge you to take the day off and relax by following my relaxation routine:
Step 1: Set the tone for the day
Before you begin your day of pampering, get real with yourself and set your expectations of the day:
How are you feeling today? What do you want to accomplish today?
Your emotional state will set the mood for the whole day. If you feel down and have no desire to change that, it is unlikely for your experience to be positive. However, if you have decided to make the most of your day, then you are in for a treat!
Step 2: Repeat your positive affirmations
I am a strong believer in positive affirmations. How you set your mind for the day matters on a whole new subconscious level. If you are thinking about how much stuff you have to get done and how stressed you are, your spa day will turn into a guilt trip. But if you change your mindset into positive and wishful thinking of how relaxing and rewarding it will be, your day will be much more pleasant.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Step 3: Recreate the spa atmosphere
Now that your feelings are in the right place, it is time for your senses. We will start by recreating the spa atmosphere.
Start by lighting some aroma candles to tease your senses. Turn on relaxing music to caress your ears – try searching for “Spa Music” on Spotify, and pick a lengthy playlist.
If you have a diffuser – even better! Scents are proven to change your mood and relax your mind. The smell of lavender, peppermint, lemon, and eucalyptus can calm you down – and they smell amazing.
Step 4: Grab your go-to kit
Once you have recreated the spa atmosphere, it is time to grab your amenities:
Hair accessories, your favorite slippers, that fancy pajama you swore to wear, towels, snacks, books, and everything else that you might need for your perfect day.
Step 5: Treatments
The final step is here! Now that you have set the the emotional and physical mood of your “Me-time”, it is time to choose your treatments.
Give love to your feet
If you are anything like me, your feet are often the ones who receive the least love. This is why you can turn your day into pampering your feet using a feet scrub (body scrub also works) and start removing the dead cells in circular motions. Finish it off with a moisturizing feet mask.
Steam Your Face
If you would like to get steamy, I recommend you to recreate the steam facial procedure at home. You will need a deep bowl, boiled water, and essential oils.
First, boil the water and pour it into the bowl. Then, add a few drops of your favorite essential oils. Start leaning over the bowl and steam your face for a few minutes. For the best results, try twisting a towel over your head to trap the steam.
Once you are done with your steamy treatment, finish off your face with a revitalizing face mask or moisturizer.
The cold and rainy days are prone to frizz and dry your hair. This is why you will need to give your hair that extra love by deep conditioning it.
The good news is that you don’t need to break the bank on expensive conditioners or hair masks – you can DIY deep conditioning hair mask! Some of my favorite ones are:
What my spa day looks like
When I am having a spa day, I love pampering my skin and hair. My routine is as follows:
I start with a long and steamy shower. If you love aromatherapy but don’t have a bath (girl, same), you can do it in the shower! All you have to do is
When I am ready with boiling myself, it is time for my face. I clean my face with a gentle cleanser and start exfoliating my skin using a natural scrub that removes dead skin cells and brightens the skin. Depending on my skin condition, I like to put on a revitalizing face mask. After the mask, it is time to put on natural oil with jojoba and massage my face while applying it.
