8 Ways To Get Out Of Writer’s Block

Has your motivation for blogging vanished into thin air? Do you find it hard to find a good reason to write something? It might be the case that you’re suffering from classic writer’s block.

Every now and then, it is normal to lose inspiration or feel unsure if someone would even spend time to bother reading your blogging.

What is Writer’s Block?

First things first, how do you know you are experiencing writer’s block?

Writer’s block is the state in which you can’t write anything – be it a new blog, the next 100 pages of your book, or even your social media posts. It is a real pain in the ass, and everyone at least once has experienced it!

Feeling de-motivated can happen even to the best of us! Luckily, I have found a few tips that help me get out of writer’s block:

Just Write

Something that helps me tremendously is to start writing – without obligations or expectations! Trust me, it really does wonders!

You might not feel like writing but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t write at all. Take advantage of the Pomodoro Technique. Set a timer and spend 25 minutes writing. Enjoy your favorite drink and let those words in your head spill out. You can start with an outline if you like. Avoid overthinking and just write.

Literally, just dump everything on your document or piece of paper and write about anything. Whatever pops into your mind, make sure you write it down. Even if it’s not making a lot of sense, write it anyways.

When starting to write, even if your mind tells you otherwise, you can keep those creative juices and motivation flowing.

Modify Your Capture Pattern

Whenever you feel stuck in a deep rut, you might want to make some changes to spark up your creativity.

Among the things you can decide to change is the way you create your blog posts. For instance, if your posts are normally typed on a computer, why not write in your good old notebook and use your most favorite pen?

You can also try capturing your thoughts with a voice recorder or using your smartphone. There is nothing to lose here – only gain 😉.

Don’t forget that, sometimes, changing even the slightest thing can help you regain your blogging motivation!

Alter Your Workspace

Now, this doesn’t mean you should give your whole workplace a complete overhaul. Although, if you can – just go for it, I bet it will feel so good!

But if you’re not in the mood to rearrange everything – try changing it up a little – add a few cute flower pots, new desk accessories, and some motivational posters!

However, the easiest thing you can do is change your environment by going to a different workspace, even if it is in your own house!

Take a Break

Perhaps, the best solution for you is to take some time off and focus on self-care?

Furthermore, short breaks will help you clear your mind of your blogging problems and prepare your brain for writing. There are lots of things you can do to free yourself from frustrations, give your mind a much-needed reset, and gear you up for a more productive blogging session, such as:

  • Take a walk around your city center or in nature
  • Read a bit of your favorite book
  • Listen to a motivational podcast or Netflix
  • Draw your thoughts on paper
  • Workout or meditate
  • Take a nap
  • Pamper your mind and body with a DIY spa-day at home

Take it easy and your mind will thank you in no time!

Tune in to Your Favorite Music

I love listening to music while working and can’t go without it! I like to alter different genres depending on my mood. Just go to Spotify or any other music player and select some of the pre-existing playlists, or create your own!

Something that helps me is to hop on AnswerThePublic and search for what questions people have been asking. These searches are generated from search engines such as Google and Bing and allow you to discover what pain points your target audience has.

It’s not only a gold mine for content ideas but a great source of consumer insight and keyword performance.

Create a mind map in which you free-flow your ideas, plan your bullet points and headings. I like using MindMup because it’s free and easy to create seamless maps, but any other tool will work! You can even create a mind map using Canva – you can even check their templates!

If you’re not into mind maps, you can create a mood board, collage, or just anything that can help you get in the zone.

Change your mindset

Most of the time, the root of your problem is caused by your negative mindset. If you are constantly criticizing yourself and holding yourself accountable for every mistake – you will quickly lose motivation for blogging.

I want you to silence that inner critic that lives inside of you. Instead allow positivity, self-love, and creativity to fill you! I know that it’s easier said than done. But when you are working towards changing your mindset and looking at how much you have accomplished – you will start believing in it and yourself!

  1. I love the technique where you set the timer and write the first things that come into your head. This works very well for me and it makes for fun reading at the end that also helps to break the tension!

There are days when I just can’t write and everytime I think of sitting down, I’d say to myself “I really don’t feel like writing today”…but I’m telling you, days when I tell myself to just write for at least 15 minutes I end up writing more.
