2020 Reflection – A Year In Review

2020 reflection

The first Monday of 2021 – how refreshing to enter the new week with a 2020 reflection blog post!

Although 2020 has been a total rollercoaster, it has taught me to become more resilient and believe in the process. And it’s important to mention that when there were lows, there were also highs.

Started My Freelance Journey⠀

I first created my Fiverr profile at the end of May and didn’t think much of it. I definitely, didn’t expect the success it became!

One of the reasons why I got into freelancing was to cope with the financial problems that the pandemic dragged. But probably the most important reason was to create a better future for me once I graduate from university. The moment I realized that freelancing is the right choice for me was when I got my first internship. I hated sitting and wasting my whole day in an office, commuting to work, and having no flexibility at all.

Fast forward to today, I have completed over 100 orders on Fiverr, gained so much experience, and worked with amazing clients!

Created an Instagram Business Account

Although trivial to some, another accomplishment is to have created and established my online presence by joining Instagram – @freelancingqueen (follow me if you’d like <3).

In the beginning, I had no clue what to post about. All I wanted was to share my freelancing journey with someone and use it as a portfolio. However, it grew to become so much more – I developed my personal brand, had the pleasure to connect with many amazing creators, and learned A LOT!

I honestly can’t express how grateful I am to the community that welcomed me with open hands! ⠀⠀⠀⠀

Built My Website And Started Blogging

Back in November, I finally caved in and built my website! I have had this dream for a few months but was so afraid to jump into the whole blogging lifestyle.

Tbh, I had no idea what I was doing, and trust me, I still don’t. I changed my website theme so often – and probably will continue this bad habit until finding THE ONE that suits me. Not knowing anything about websites was really frustrating – not knowing what broke down or why something looks wonky. Total nightmare!

But don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining. It was a process that I am grateful to have experienced. It taught me a lot about WordPress, website design, and a tiny (really tiny) bit of coding!

Became More Confident and Chose to Believe in Myself

2020 was a year that I really got out of my comfort zone. Working on many different projects, choosing to share my experience on Instagram and here, and putting myself out there really helped my confidence. I became so much more determined, consistent, and trusting the process that I am capable of creating something of my own.

Learned Many Valuable Skills ⠀⠀⠀

During these short months, I learned so much about social media marketing, content creation, copywriting, and other personal skills that helped me gain clarity!  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

To continue this 2020 reflection, I want to add a few key lessons that I will be taking with me into the new year:

  • Sometimes it’s best to detach yourself from everything – friends, family, social media, and just focus on your well-being
  • It’s important to realize when to take a break and not to hustle 24/7
  • It’s totally okay to not want to socialize (my fellow introverts back me up) all the time
  • There will always be someone who will support you (I am lucky to have my bf and my loving family that will always stand beside me)
  • Opportunities arise from the weirdest of places
  • Don’t be afraid to start – fear and doubt will vanish once you jump
  • Focus on what matters the most to you and leave the rest for another time
  • Consistency really is key, BUT it’s okay to take a break from it
  • Follow your passion and become your number one fan – no one will cheer you better than you will

Hope that you can resonate with some of them!

New Year Resolutions

I’m usually not one to share my resolutions, just because, well… I never manage to remember them! But this year is different – this year, I will share them with you (become my accountability buddy please!).

Personal Goals

Introduce More Self-Care In My Life

I have always been an advocate of the importance of self-care, but lately, I have neglected taking care of my body and mind. This year I want to focus more on taking necessary rests, enjoying my downtime, working out more frequently, and just enjoying the process!

Find a Better Work-Life Balance

I guess this is something we all struggle with – the holy grail of all freelancers and entrepreneurs – achieving *that* work-life balance. It’s definitely something I would like to get a better grip on!

Professional Goals:

Expand My Freelance Services

Currently, I am offering social media caption writing (which I absolutely ADORE) and listicle writing. I would really like to expand into a new niche in the upcoming months!

Grow My Email List

I’m pretty new to email marketing and still haven’t created an email sequence (I guess this will add to my monthly goals). This year, I want to build my email list and create freebies that I would love to share with you!

Work On A Digital Product

It’s no secret that I love the artistic part of content creation. I absolutely love working with Canva and creating designs with it. This is why one of my goals is to create a digital product.

Work On Monetizing My Blog

Earning money from this website is a dream that I know takes a lot of consistency, effort, and love put into it – and I’m ready to do it!

All in all, writing this 2020 reflection has really made me aware of how much I have accomplished despite the year we all had.

And if you’re still with me, I hope you have enjoyed this rather different personal piece of me!

How about you – what were your biggest accomplishments in 2020? Share them with me in the comments!
